Thornbury High is a diverse and vibrant learning environment. We prepare students for the future with a progressive, innovative curriculum that is built on the timeless values of care and respect that are the foundation of our community.
Congratulations to Flynn Slater (Psychology, class of 2023) and Christina Kapetanea (Greek, class of 2024) on receiving a Premier's VCE award which recognises outstanding achievement in the VCE.
Principal's welcome
At Thornbury High School, we believe in every student’s right to an excellent education. In our state-of-the-art facilities, students thrive in a kind, caring and academic environment. We have high expectations for all our students, and our award-winning teachers work exceptionally hard to support students with their learning and wellbeing.
As a school, we provide opportunities for students to excel academically, as well as in a range of co-curricular areas including Sport, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Leadership. We also offer extension and acceleration options for students, including our Junior School Concept classes, our unique Italian Immersion program, and our AFL, Soccer, Netball and Basketball Sports Academies.
For me personally, as a person who attended excellent public schools in my youth, I truly recognise the value of a public school that is aspirational, well-resourced and has a culture of high expectations and outstanding achievement. As a migrant from Sweden who came to Australia as an adult, I also believe deeply in the importance of promoting a culture of inclusion and support for all members of the THS community.
Our aspiration here is for all our students to graduate from THS with the skills, knowledge and confidence to go out into the world as resourceful, resilient young people, who can make a positive impact on their community and in the world. We aim to develop students as global citizens, with a love or learning and empathy and understanding of other people.
Thank you for taking an interest in our school – we are very proud of our school, our staff and our students at THS. Please book a tour if you would like to come visit our wonderful school and see what we have to offer.

About Our School
At Thornbury High School we champion innovation and academic excellence in a supportive, inclusive environment. Our extensive academic and co-curricular program aims to foster and inspire respectful, resilient young people ready to face a rapidly-changing world.
Every day we challenge our students to achieve the very limit of their potential and support them through our stage-based curriculum model and culture of high expectations. We push them to engage their talents outside the classroom through an expansive range of opportunities in sports, music and the arts, our state-of-the-art facilities, and student leadership positions. We support them pastorally by investing heavily in student management, our sub-schools and our dedicated wellbeing centre. And we encourage them to connect with our local and global communities through our international students program, our partnership with Croxton Special School and our engaged alumni network.
We are proud to have served Thornbury and the families of Darebin and Banyule since 1962, with our students also travelling from Northcote, Preston, Bellfield, Reservoir, Heidelberg and Fairfield. We invite you to visit the school and learn more about what we do.
