School leadership appointments
As I informed the community in the last newsletter, long-term Assistant Principal Meredith Stephenson has decided to take leave for the remainder of 2018 and much of 2019, leading into retirement. The leave will commence at the start of week 5 in term 2 this year.
The school has now concluded an internal merit-based process and has appointed two 0.5 Acting Assistant Principals for the remainder of 2018, current Head of Maths Tayatea Mackenzie and current Year 7 Manager Ryan Millar. Congratulations to both Tayatea and Ryan on their appointments. They are both outstanding teachers and leaders and have so much to contribute to the continued growth of Thornbury High.
As a result of these appointments there will be some unavoidable changes to class teacher allocations in the coming weeks. These will be communicated once they have been finalised.
Work has now commenced on the new netball complex funded as part of a joint State Government and Sport and Recreation Victoria initiative. Victorian Minister for Sport John Eren visited the school for an official ‘sod-turning’ event on Monday 23rd April. Thornbury High Sports Coordinator Saleem Nasser and Head of Health and Physical Education Carla Ruhe attended along with some of our top netball students. Also present were representatives from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Netball Victoria and the Legislative Council member for Northern Metropolitan region, Mr Nazir Elasmar.
