Principal’s Report

Congratulations to Taylor Todeschini and Derong Kuang (both Year 11 students) on their successful nominations for the position of student member on school council. Taylor and Derong will join fellow students Ellie Lunt (12) and Loujine Azmy (10) who already serve on school council as community members.

In other student news, our SRC team, led by School Captain Ellie Lunt, hosted student leaders from Penders Grove and Wales Street primary schools for a half-day workshop on leadership run by Thornbury High students. Visiting students were very appreciative and all participants benefited from the experience.

Athletics Carnival

We were once again lucky with the weather for our Athletics Carnival and it was a great day of both performance and participation, crowned by the overall win of Nicholls. Students who finished first in their events have since represented the school at regional level. Again, well done to Mr Nasser, Mr Walsh and all staff involved in organising what really is a great event on our school calendar.

Year 12 ‘TIS’ excursion

All Year 12 students spent an afternoon at La Trobe University’s Tertiary Information Service, an opportunity to research their tertiary study options, discuss careers and course content with tertiary representatives and collect course information form all the major Victorian universities and local TAFE institutions.

Harmony Day

The Thornbury High School languages faculty organised another wonderful Harmony Day recently. Well done to Mr Tosi and his team of staff and student helpers for the lunchtime festival of food and dancing.

NAPLAN testing has been completed for 2018. It’s a major organisational task and our Year 7 and 9 Managers and their teams ran a very smooth program. The school has just received notification that we will be moving to an online delivery format for 2019, so more on the implications of that for students early next year.
