I would like to officially welcome all families to the start of another school year – and what a warm start to the new school year it has been.
Year 7s had their first day of school on Wednesday 30 January with a transition program that focuses very heavily on the basics of getting organised and comfortable in a new school. Their first day finished with a very well-attended barbecue (in the blistering heat) with their families and staff.
Our 2019 Year 12 cohort commenced on the same day with a full day of classes followed by Years 8-11 the following day. The feedback from teachers is that across the board students have come back very prepared and focussed.
With a favourable tender outcome for our new Gymnasium and Performing Arts Centre, work has now commenced. The initial deadline is early December, but we will see as the project unfolds. We will also continue to work with the state government on getting funding for stage 2 of our Masterplan – an exciting and much-needed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Maths) Centre.
I hope all families had a great break over the holidays and I look forward to seeing you all at Thornbury High School events throughout the year.
