Principal’s Report

Industry and Expo Day

This is a very big day/evening in the Thornbury High calendar. In the morning Year 10s and 11s were able to choose from a range of industry guest speakers organised by careers Counsellor Ms Jo Apostolopoulos (including a session with me for students interested in education, detailing my journey from taxidriver to Principal). We then had a terrific turnout for the evening’s activities, which were designed to support both students and their families in making the best subject, pathways and careers decisions. It included an evening session with families of senior students to explain the process for applying for tertiary studies. Again, well done to all involved. The program was overseen by AP Ms Tayatea Mackenzie.

Visiting politicians

As part of communicating with schools on education needs, we have been visited this week by the State Member for Northcote Ms Lidia Thorpe. Staff, student and parent members of School Council were present as well as two of our school captains (see photo below).

Also this week, Thornbury High hosted a Principals forum with the Federal Member for Batman, Ms Ged Kearney, and Federal Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Ms Tanya Plibersek. This was another opportunity to speak to those who represent us about education in general but also the specific needs of schools like Thornbury High and our redevelopment program.

Principal
