Promotion
Promotion Policy year 7, 8 & 9
The purpose of this promotions policy is to assist students in meeting the required standard and developing good work and organisational habits in preparation for later years.
Promotion to the next year level is subject to students at year 7, 8 & 9 demonstrating an ongoing commitment to their studies by working consistently throughout the year achieving an acceptable standard in assessment tasks, effort, attendance and behaviour.
For students to be promoted they must:
- Achieve an acceptable work standard
- Complete all compulsory assessment tasks (CAT's) to an acceptable standard (a list of compulsory assessment tasks is published each semester). Students who do not complete compulsory assessment tasks can be given one extension of up to 5 school days. If the task is still not completed to a satisfactory standard the student will attend a weekend catch up session.
At year 8 in each semester pass 8 out of 10 subjects including English, Maths, Science and SOSE
At year 9 in each semester pass 7 out of 8 subjects including English, Maths, Science and SOSE
- Obtain at least an 'acceptable' rating for effort as recorded in their reports. - Have acceptable attendance (90% - this means a minimum of 9 days attendance every fortnight). This includes punctuality to class.
- Have acceptable behaviour (consideration to be given to the number of teacher detention, school detentions and suspensions as well as at least an 'acceptable' rating for class behaviour as recorded in their reports).
Inability to meet promotion requirements
If students do not meet these promotion requirements there are three possible courses of action. Students will be:
- promoted to the next year level on contract (signed by principal, coordinator, student and parent) which will be reviewed at the end of 5th week of term 1 and end of term 1 - if contract is not met students will return to previous year level
- offered the chance to repeat their current year level
- assisted in transferring to another school or alternative setting
VCE Promotion
- In order for students to progress to year 11 or 12 they must satisfactory complete at least 12 units (10 units at year 11) including two units of English.
- Have satisfactory attendance (90%) - this includes punctuality to both form assembly and classes.
- Have satisfactory behaviour (consideration to be given to the number of College Detentions and Suspensions).
- At year 11 have achieved a minimum of 'C' or higher in their subjects or an interview will be required in that subject for the students to continue.
