Year 7 & 8
Junior School
With the transition from primary to secondary schooling, junior students develop a close and effective working relationship with a small team of committed teachers, their own space in which to operate and a chance to excel.
Junior students have their own classroom, play and recreational areas and facilities. The team of teachers is dedicated to the junior curriculum and delivers a quality curriculum to students. A team approach also allows assessment by teachers who are focused on the 'whole' student as he or she settles in.
This approach means that parents have fewer teachers to get to know and teachers can more effectively monitor homework and identify needs that may arise before they become problems.
Junior students have a program covering the eight key learning areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Arts, Physical Education / Health, Languages other than English, Technology, and Study of Society and Environment. Students receive a solid grounding in academic studies alongside practical studies and the arts (including music).
The College offers four languages other than English: Greek, Indonesian, Mandarin and Italian. Students have the opportunity to participate in overseas trips, exposing them to the culture of the language taught.
The School has a special reading program for all students in years 7 to 8. English classes have one period a fortnight timetabled in the library. Students borrow the books they are reading and are expected to read them at home between the fortnightly reading sessions.
The school provides a separate teaching space for year 7 and year 8.
